This video is long-form (20+ minutes), but every second of it has meaning...meaning for my son and I at least.
In 2018, my 10 year-old son participated in the Montana Apprentice Hunter Program, which allows young people to start hunting at the age of 10 with a mentor, instead of having to wait until the standard age of 12.
Idaho has a similar program, and my son was able to participate in that program this season as a non-resident. So far, his 2019 hunting season has resulted in his first ever big game harvest, a big cow elk.
He still has two deer tags in his pocket (one in Idaho and one in Montana) with these youth mentorship hunting programs for this 2019 season, and I hope to use these mentoring opportunities to really help set him up for success when he becomes old enough to hunt on his own.
