China urges 'calm and restraint' after US kills top Iranian commander China has appealed for restraint from all sides, especially the US, following the killing of Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani. European Council president Charles Michel said "further escalations must be avoided at all costs". Meanwhile, UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has spoken to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and urged all parties to de-escalate as further conflict is in "none of our interests". Moscow, which has key interests in the Middle East, said it was an attempt by US to change the "balance of power" in the region.
