Understanding Corporate Organizations and Culture (Mini DebTalk) Mini DebTalks: Hey there! Here’s a brief segment from my most recent video, “Things to Consider Before Trying to Win an Argument with Your Boss.” I call these Mini DebTalks. In this short clip, I share that organizations are made up of formal and informal structures and provide some details on each. Why is it important to learn about the formal and informal structures of an organization? It matters for the same reason you ask about the dress code of a party before you show up. It matters for the same reason you do some basic research on the weather, culture, people, or history of a place you plan to visit. So you can figure out how to navigate, not offend folks or not get the wrong type of attention. Knowing the formal and informal structures of a company is also a great way to prepare for an interview or get the lay of the land when you start a new job.
