Our top story today, U.S. President Donald Trump signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act for the Fiscal Year 2020, which includes provisions restricting the drawdown of American troops in South Korea.
At a ceremony held in Maryland on Friday local time, the U.S. President signed the 738 billion dollar defense policy bill which includes clauses that prohibit the use of funds to reduce the number of American troops stationed in South Korea below the current level of 28,500.
The new limit represents an increase of 6,500 from the 22,000 level stipulated in this year's NDAA.
It also calls for secondary sanctions on foreign banks and companies that facilitate illicit financial transactions for North Korea.
The provision is called the Otto Warmbier North Korea Nuclear Sanctions Act of 2019.
