Hello this is Brandon with another Mix Minute, and today we’re going to remove harshness in the top end of a kick drum using Waves H-EQ.

Trying to add attack to this kick drum sounds harsh.

If we look at the analyzer, we see the problem. There are two resonant peaks in the upper midrange.

Using a narrow bandwidth, we can reduce those frequencies. We have a smoother kick attack as a result that isn’t harsh when we boost the top end.
