How to Take Notes to Significantly Improve Your Memory and Recall - Quick Thought #933

How to Take Notes to Significantly Improve Your Memory and Recall - Quick Thought #933 Today, I tried a different note-taking technique.

I'm reading Machiavelli's 'The Prince,' and it is split into chapters of about 2-5 pages in length. I challenge myself to read the entire chapter, close the book, and then write out a summary of everything I can remember from the chapter with as much detail as possible.

This is one of the more challenging ways to study, but there are a lot of references that show this method of recall to be one of the most effective for improving memory and retention of whatever material you're trying to learn. It helps you develop greater focus, too, because you know that you're going to have to remember as much as you can. This removes that lazy habit of passive reading and replaces it with active study.
