Lawrence - A dirty solution which is going to be hugely disruptive.

Lawrence has been coming to this part of Suffolk all his life, as did his father before him. It’s “a little pocket, which stands out like a little light at the edge of the coast”. Lawrence has noticed that this little pocket also has a buoyant economy, whereas “a lot of areas a round our coasts have turned into disadvantaged areas.”

But the economic buoyancy is fragile: “if you take away even just 10%, you’re taking away a lot of what is the potential difference between success and failure […] and things thriving and things diminishing.”

Lawrence explains that green energy should not mean a worse environment. Many landfalls for cabling will be “hugely disruptive”, whereas an offshore ringmain would be a greener solution because it avoids the proposed economic and environmental cost to the area. “it's been done in Netherlands and America.”

But, he says, “it needs coordination, which of course is where the government has to come in. “
