In our next short film we join Adrian Owens and his family, who will take us on a joyous journey aboard their stunning Italian Franchini sailing yacht, “Anna – B”. The Owens’ are no strangers to the Milford Haven Waterway – their love for sailing and the sea has been passed down from one generation to another, and it only continues to grow.
Adrian tells us how he found himself aboard his father’s vessel from just 6 months old and things haven’t changed much since then! Not just a hobby for the family, sailing has become a lifestyle. Through the use of our easy to use lock gates, Adrian and his family enjoy taking frequent trips out on the waterway, exploring new areas or just paying a visit to their favourite spots around the Pembrokeshire Coast. Our location is definitely hard to beat on a sunny day and on leaving Milford Marina you’ll be spoilt for choice with stop offs along the Milford Haven Waterway and further around the coast of Pembrokeshire.
Whether you’re a serious sailor or just starting out, the Milford Haven Waterway is great for sailing at any time of the year, and is home to four local yacht clubs if you’re keen to get more involved with the vibrant sailing community here. The majority of the waterway is predominantly sheltered allowing for a relaxing cruise but for the more experienced sailors, if you’re looking for adventure, head towards the entrance of the haven, where the complex south westerly winds will give you a more challenging sail.
An enviable coastline and wildlife population is within easy reach of Milford Marina. We’re on the doorstep of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and the whole of the Milford Haven Waterway is included in a European Marine Special Area of Conservation. We are also lucky to be so close to the nature reserves of Skomer and Skokholm Islands, which are approximately 1.5 hours sail away from Milford Marina. Skomer is famous for the puffins which make the island their home from April to August, followed by a busy pupping season for the beautiful Atlantic grey seals and also Manx shearwaters. We actively encourage our berth holders and other boat owners to photograph the beautiful scenery and nature they experience on the sea and to enter our photo of the month competition.
As the only marina in Wales participating in Europe's largest cruising network ‘Passeport Escales’, Milford Marina has become a must-visit with plenty to do right on your doorstep. Surrounded by a wonderful variety of shops, restaurants and marine services, you’ll find all that you need within walking distance.
12 month berth holders like Adrian are eligible for a Passeport Escales card and can enjoy up to 5 free nights at over 120 marinas with our compliments. And, if you’ve caught the wanderlust bug, there are many participating marinas to break up your voyage located on the south coast of England, France, Spain, Portugal and even Morocco. One of the many benefits that Milford Marina offers includes an option to pause your contract if you do wish to take an extended sailing trip!
