At UPMC Pinnacle, our cardiologists offer VO2 max testing as part of our sports and exercise cardiology services. VO2 max is the point at which an athlete reaches maximal oxygen consumption during intense exercise. During the test, you are monitored as the exercise you are performing increases over time. The exercise physiologist who is observing the test is examining heart rate, EKG and respiratory status. The test can help both endurance athletes and weekend warriors gain an idea of cardiorespiratory fitness and allow coaches to build training programs for the rest of the season.
