Stars Depend on Talent Shows (Original)

Stars Depend on Talent Shows (Original) Lyrics:

She’s perched upon the blacktop x
A star, they say, “took my breath away”
But she’s worried, vision blurry
She numbs shame down to live for some crowd
A forced crescent laugh, a batting eyelash
When she looks at you you’ll never see her final act
What is she thinking, it can’t be shown
Her life depends on this talent show

Mhm lalala
Her heartbeat cheers her lips along
Ah ah ah she leads us on
face number two laughs along

She points her toes against rhythmic sores
Stands in line for day to break, for her dawning age
Crowds among black swans, a dozen each
Drained but still leggy, feathers sharp and ready

Biting for a chance to feed on which only three have seen before
I heard she’s the lucky one, we all chime aloud

a chorus of voices pointing every meadow flower
They tell us to dance and we jump right into their symphonies (x2)

Mhm lalala
Her heartbeat cheers her lips along
Ah ah ah she leads us on
face number two laughs along

Oh every time I see a comet I think of her
Shatter on the atmosphere, twenty light years ahead of here
I wonder what she makes of me, a girl from down below the screen
But I know to her, I’m just another fallen boy reaching for a queen

Mhm lalala
Her heartbeat cheers her lips along
Ah ah ah she sells her tongue
to the melody of a sad sad song

Behind the song:

Not about any specific person, but envisions a girl on stage, aspiring to be an actress. She's being forced to do things "in order to be a star..." She feels sad, depressed, and living in a lie, but she carries on.

She is warned that if she doesn't do those things, her spot will be taken away by another "black swan," because young girls are fed the lie that she is indispensable, and life is a competition—out to get her.

My message is basically that life doesn't have to be a competition: a swan eat swan world. That you can find happiness by blazing your own path and being true to whatever you cultivate :)

Don't attack me for my singing :( I'm more into songwriting than singing
