WOMEX 19 Film Programme features 17 documentaries with stories from across the globe divided into Market & Public Screenings alongside a Film Library. Music remains at the forefront of the 2019 film programme, representing societies, their socio-cultural traditions and politics that are usually left out of the mainstream narrative.
In bringing forth these insightful audio-visual reflections of the sonic world, we enter into a discourse: how can film evoke new musical narratives, conserve traditions and sustain memories?
The programme allows for an immersive experience for bookers, curators, label managers and publishers among other WOMEXicans to explore a variety of music, discover the musicians, projects and collaborations behind the sounds, reflect on alternative programming opportunities and connect with the filmmakers present- further strengthening the conversation between the global music and film community.
