U.S. Defense Secretary visits Afghanistan in a bid to resume negotiations with the Taliban The U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper is bidding to resume peace talks with the Taliban on his current visit to Afghanistan. He met with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Defense Minister Asadullah Khalid Sunday in Kabul. Esper's visit comes a month after Trump broke off negotiations with the Taliban following a Taliban attack that killed a U.S. soldier.
